Walthamstow Football Club – a historic East London team
Founded in 1868, Walthamstow FC is one of the oldest football clubs in the country and the second-oldest in London. Today, the club plays in the Isthmian League North Division, the eighth tier of English football, and calls Wadham Lodge Sports Ground its home.
Nicknamed ‘Stow’, the club has played under seven different names but remains a cornerstone of East London football. After 37 years without a league title, Walthamstow FC secured promotion in 2022 by winning the Essex Senior League.
Making Headlines
In 2023, Walthamstow FC gained national attention for its William Morris-inspired home and away kits—a collaboration with William Morris Gallery, Wood Street Walls, and Admiral Sportswear. This groundbreaking project marked the first time a museum partnered with a football club on kit design, raising funds with the aim to launch a women’s team and earning acclaim as one of the best kits of the year.
